About The Matchups
The Matchups puts the numbers behind a game in one place: who's playing, who's hurt, how the teams match up and what's changed lately, so you can size up a matchup before it starts.
Where the data comes from
- MLB: schedules, lineups and player stats from MLB's public Stats API. The Matchups is an independent site and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Major League Baseball.
- NFL: schedules, play-by-play, player stats and injury reports from nflverse, licensed CC BY 4.0. Play action, motion, blitz and box counts are FTN Data via nflverse, licensed CC BY-SA 4.0. Not affiliated with or endorsed by the National Football League. NFL numbers update overnight, not live.
- Weather: forecasts by Open-Meteo, licensed CC BY 4.0.
- Ballpark photos: Wikimedia Commons; each photo's author and license are shown with it.
- Coaching staffs are maintained by hand from public reporting.
- Team names and logos belong to their teams and leagues and are shown only to identify them.
The AI Scout
Scout answers questions using the stats on the page, written by Anthropic's Claude. It can be wrong, so check anything important against the numbers. Outlooks and insights on The Matchups are reads on the numbers, not predictions, and nothing here is betting advice.
Privacy
- No accounts, no ads and no tracking cookies.
- We count visits with Umami, which doesn't use cookies or collect personal information: just pages viewed and features used (like asking Scout), in aggregate.
- Feedback you send is emailed to us, along with the page you were on. Add your email only if you'd like a reply; we use it for nothing else.
- Your theme and which sections you keep open are saved in your own browser.
- Questions you ask Scout are sent to Anthropic to write the answer, along with that game's stats. Don't include personal information.
- To keep the AI affordable, the server counts requests per IP address for an hour; it doesn't store them.
